Boyhood is the bedroom-pop project of Caylie Runciman, of rural Ontario. Known for crafting beguiling, off-kilter DIY anthems, her latest record, I'll Dream InStead (Hand Drawn Dracula) finds Boyhood sounding immersive and immediate. “This album stemmed from a feeling of desperation,” Runciman explains, and you can hear a backed-up-against-the-wall determination throughout these songs that could only be cultivated obsessively in isolation. Writing, performing, recording, and engineering the entire album herself, Boyhood’s latest finds Runciman metamorphosing. Through tough-kid guitar grit, dusty synths, analog feedback loops, and deadpan verses, you can hear her “experiencing a rebirth.”

Harmony Syndrome (Montreal)

With a flick of the wrist, Harmony Syndrome is a dramaturge of slinky pop tunes that are theatrically synthesized. Crafted to draw you into a world of dayglo colours and manic pop sensations, Harmony Syndrome is the A-sexual gutter detective persona of printmaker and musician Tyrin Kelly accompanied by inimitable Gino "Corpse Fingers" Eloise. Drawing inspiration from theatre sensations such as The Cockettes and the punk prowess of Vaginal Creme Davis, H.S. is an all Black sonic band of naughty artistes.

DJ Pink Veil (Hull)

DJ Pink Veil (Rachel Weldon) is a music curator, event producer, and project manager living on Anishinaabe Algonquin territory (so-called Hull). She is the founder and director of non-profit music and arts presenter organization Debaser.

For the second edition of Active Listening we've assembled a lineup of stellar DJs for our return to our favourite HiFi Lounge, FONO! You'll have to take our word for it, or wait until next week for the full lineup reveal.

Active Listening, notably “the practice of being fully present in a conversation” for us goes beyond conversations, as listening is a key principle of a dance floor. The title also invokes being active, such as dancing, another core element of our events. Utilizing both the ballroom and the lounge at FONO, you’ll be transcended into a dance party like no other. Standout DJs, live visuals in The Ballroom and two vinyl DJ sets in the HiFi Lounge are sure to have you active.

Marc McLaughlin and band return to Ottawa on their fall tour of Eastern Canada. Joining them will be Kingston-based bilingual pop outfit Good Fortune and local songwriter Claude Munson.

Marc McLaughlin is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Fredericton, NB, crafting hushed, emotionally direct songs that blur the line between left-field pop and lo-fi folk. Following a year of performances opening for the likes of Dan Mangan, Spencer Krug, and By Divine Right, the band heads out on the road with a handful of new songs from an upcoming album.

Join songwriter and artist KASHIN | 家倩 for an intimate evening celebrating the release of her new single, Unpromised Land.

Inspired by her parents’ refugee journey, Unpromised Land explores the complicated realities of migration and displacement. The song examines the discrepancy between the promise of a new beginning and the lived experience of arriving in a country where newcomers are often expected to assimilate, remain grateful, and stay silent.

Moving beyond a personal family story, the song engages with broader questions of migration and national identity, asking who gets to define what it means to belong.

The evening will feature a live performance of Unpromised Land and other songs from KASHIN’s growing body of work, followed by a moderated conversation about the ideas and creative process behind the music, with plenty of opportunity for audience questions.

Guests will also be invited to enjoy a selection of appetizers and spend time connecting with one another before and after the performance.

Come for an intimate evening of music and storytelling as KASHIN brings the world of Unpromised Land to life.
